International body and home products retailer Crabtree and Evelyn have sourced an Orientalist painting from Bridgeman to represent an eau de cologne in their limited edition ‘Heritage’ collection.
The ‘Sevellian Neroli’ depicts a striking detail from Interior of the Palm House at Potsdam (1833) by Karl Blechen (1798-1840). The exotic subject of the painting perfectly reflects the scent of citrus fruit and Arabic influences found in the fragrance.
Karl (or Carl) Blechen was a Professor at the Academy of Arts, Berlin, famed for his atmospheric and romantic landscapes. Many of his other paintings show similar scenes of ruins and stormy seas, destruction and nostalgia.
