The ‘Sevellian Neroli’ depicts a striking detail from Interior of the Palm House at Potsdam (1833) by Karl Blechen (1798-1840). The exotic subject of the painting perfectly reflects the scent of citrus fruit and Arabic influences found in the fragrance.

Karl (or Carl) Blechen was a Professor at the Academy of Arts, Berlin, famed for his atmospheric and romantic landscapes. Many of his other paintings show similar scenes of ruins and stormy seas, destruction and nostalgia.
