Bridgeman Images have teamed up with social media influencer and art curator Katy Hessel – founder of @thegreatwomenartists Instagram account which champions contemporary and modern art from Katy’s favourite female artists sighted on her travels. This prize is for female artists – more on this below.
@thegreatwomenartistswas set up in October 2015 by 24 year-old art historian Katy Hessel as an aim to rewrite women into a previously very male-dominated history of art, written in an accessible and easy-to-read manner. The account celebrates all kinds of women artists on a daily basis, ranging from unearthing Old Masters to spotlighting young grads, and includes artists working in a variety of mediums from painting to pottery, architecture and film.
Katy has curated exhibitions of her own, focusing on young female artists from a variety of backgrounds who use technology as a platform for their artistic careers. She is so excited to be working with Bridgeman on this award as she can’t wait to discover a whole world of new artists who detail with the sensitive and important topic, Art and Mind.
We’re also excited to announce that the deadline to enter the Studio Award has been extended due to overwhelming response. Now, artists have until the 30th of September to submit entries and could be in for a chance to win one of three awards – The People’s Choice Awards, The Great Women Artists as well as the main award.
There are three prizes for the Great Women Artist Award winner. Firstly, two fantastic art passes: A VIP Art Fair Pass and an Art Fund Pass. Both are valid for a year, allowing free entry to over 240 museums, galleries and historic houses across the UK as well as 50% off entry to major exhibitions. Finally, the lucky winner will also receive £150 worth of Cass Art vouchers!
The Great Women Artists prize will be in addition to the main prize. The main prize gives artists the chance to have their work displayed in New York and London at the Affordable Art Fairs in March 2019 – a total display cost worth £4,000. Also, the winning artist will win a cash commission of £1,500 to create a tote bag that will be sold at some Affordable Art Fairs all over the world, with proceeds going to charities supported by the Affordable Art Fair.
Accompanying the main prize are two additional awards each with their own prizes. Entering the competition also enters your work for these awards
By entering the BSA2018 you are also entered to win the People’s Choice award, where 10 lucky artists will be shortlisted and exhibited at the London Affordable Art Fair in October – and 22,000 visitors will choose one winner.
