Inside Lucian Freud’s Studio – bridgeman blog

Lucian Freud (1922 – 2011) is one of the most well-known and influential painters of the 20th century, yet in spite of his fame, he remained an intensely private figure.

David Dawson, also an artist, met Freud in 1990 and worked as his assistant for the next 20 years, photographing the artist in every aspect of his life. He also directed a documentary film featuring rare footage of Lucian Freud talking with critic John Richardson. The documentary is exclusive to Bridgeman Footage.

Lucian Freud’s famous studio in his Kensington home is the setting for this lovingly made documentary on the man and his work, by his assistant and friend. In the film British art historian Sir John Richardson visits Lucian Freud and over a few days in June 2009 they talk over many subjects such as painting, art and people they both knew. They were friends for most of their lives.
