Last week we were lucky enough to attend the 42nd annual Grierson Awards ceremony in London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall. It was a star-studded do, hosted by the excellent Sue Perkins, witty and charming as always, but with an added fierceness as she reproached the documentary film industry for its lack of female presenters, and, for that matter, filmmakers. Perkins, we salute you!
We had the pleasure of being accompanied by some of our clients, whom we were delighted to see win some awards! Wall to Wall’s ex-CEO Alex Graham won the Grierson Trustees’ Award, Swan Films scooped Best Presenter (Rupert Everett on Love For Sale), Blakeway scored Best Current Affairs Documentary for Dispatches: Hunted and Brook Lapping bagged the Best Historical Documentary award for The Iraq War: Regime Change.

Among the cream of documentary making talent, also present was the illustrious John Edwards, recipient of the very first Grierson Award in 1972 for his aviation film, Wind in the Wires. Bridgeman Footage is proud to exclusively represent this film, and many others from John’s personal archive, Buff Films. It was great to see the Grierson Trust chairman, Lorraine Heggessy, mention John in her introduction and continue to give him the recognition he deserves.
