We are proud to announce the launch of the Bridgeman Studio Award 2017.
This year’s winning artist will win a £1,000 book cover commission to create the art for best-selling author Beth Lewis’s next title, published by The Borough Press, an imprint of HarperCollins.
The Bridgeman Studio Award is an annual global contemporary art competition that invites artists, illustrators, and photographers the opportunity to enter up to five existing or new artworks based on this year’s theme, ‘DARK SUMMER.’
BSA2016 winner now available in bookstores
Last year’s winning commission is already gracing high street stores and is even being placed in window displays at leading high street bookstores. The artwork, beautifully illustrated by Aitch, an artist from Romania, was created for author Rosie Garland’s third title, ‘The Night Brother.’
The Night Brother cover has been featured in many industry publications including The Bookseller’s ‘Cover design round-up: June 2017.’ The Night Brother has also been widely appreciated across all social media channels and now, with the launch of the Bridgeman Studio Award 2017, artists all over the world have the opportunity to experience similar exposure.
This year’s judging panel will include:
Beth Lewis (Author)
Claire Ward (Creative Director – HarperCollins Fiction & Non-Fiction)
Susie Doore (Publishing Director – The Borough Press)
Victoria Bridgeman (CEO – Bridgeman Images)
Eileen Cooper (RA – Artist)
Aretha Campbell (Bridgeman Images Artist Manager)
Danny Arter (Creative Editor – The Bookseller)
Judging will take place in September and the winners will be announced in November.

3 Runners-Up will receive a £50 CultureLabel Gift Voucher
Important note: You are not being asked to design the front cover of Beth’s new title. You are submitting art, illustration or photography based on the theme “Dark Summer” so that the judges can see your style and interpretation of the theme. Only the winning artist will be given the £1,000 Commission to create artwork so The Borough Press creative team can work with in creating the final book cover design, which will be released May 2018.
Take a look at Beth Lewis’s website to see her previous title, The Wolf Road, and also read up about this extremely talented author.
The competition is now open for entries and the closing date will be 31st August 2017.
