The Dark Self, Susan Aldworth

The Dark Self exhibition

This summer, Bridgeman Studio Artist Susan Aldworth will host a new exhibition The Dark Self  at York St Mary’s, which is a deconsecrated medieval church.

A highly original and experimental artist known for her unorthodox printmaking techniques and philosophical investigations into the human brain and identity, Aldworth challenges us to consider what happens to the self in the dark time of sleep.

Inspired by her research into sleep during her three year residency at the University of York, The Dark Self explores the unconscious, subjective experience of sleep and confronts the viewer with ideas about this absent, dark self.
